JJ Retrieval during low tide

Post by Finnigan »

Planning to go out from JJ during the low, will be checking the wind regularly.

Are there any known spots to retrieve around JJ during the low if the wind were to get up whilst out there? Say French island?

Cheers

Spit Point on the French Island side gives all tide access if you need to land. At JJ you can get in at around a 0.8m tide with a bit of dragging but you will need to aim for the sand spit that runs out in a SW direction from the ramp.

Shanes advice is spot on, however if you are not familiar with the JJ spit and beach layout it may mean you bottom out early below 1.1m. If you do then its just wait and shuffle in, as the tide comes in fairly quick.

Likewise if unfamiliar with the area and you choose to launch or return on a falling tide give yourself a margin of 1.1m, you dont want to get stuck on a falling tide.

I often stop off for a leg stretch on Spit head beach on low slack tide. Its deep channel there so you can leave lines in water
