Hey guys n girls,
I been told by a few mates (with boats) that a good spot for gummies is directly out from flinders pier 10-15m of water on the out going tide. My question is could you safely anchor out there in those conditions assuming light winds? Or would the out going tide be to strong? I think they said its maybe 700m-1k out from the pier.
Anchoring of flinders pier?

Should be fine as long as you have enough rope and chain to hold bottom in the swell and current. I anchor up off Point Leo in 10m and it isn't an issue.

No problem as long as you have an anchor setup to handle higher tide flow. That area does get some flow but the strongest flow is much closer to Phillip Island

10 - 15 meters is more like 2 - 2.5 km out from the launch at the ramp - being new to the game you should practice a bit on anchoring and more so lifting the anchor in tide flowsnebben838 wrote:Hey guys n girls,

anchoring in 15 meters with some swell will need around 50 - 60 meters of rope

Re: Anchoring of flinders pier?
Thanks for the feed back. I wouldnt attempt it now not confident enough yet. I bought the blue medium sized cooper anchor yesturday and i have a old scuba diving reel with 3 mm dyneema on it which should be strong enough. So ill get some practice in with that first.
