How not to beach launch
There's only a fine distinction between fly fishing and standing on the bank looking like an idiot.

It's a bit of a classic of what not to do. A bit more discussion on it and other examples in this thread:

I don't know how I missed the first thread, but I did. Oh well, it's probably worth another run anyway.

Lousy job watching the sets.Seasherpa wrote:More often than not its coming back in thats the problem
Here's another classic that gives a good look at how a trailing wave swings the back end of a kayak (motionless was begging for trouble). The (bad) preparation for landing starts a bit after 16:30. The link should start the video there.

Despite all the theory in the world it takes a lot of practise, and even then you are only reducing the odds.

Definitely cringe worthy that's for sure.
But they look like Larry, Curly and Mo to me.
That's got to be a setup? Really?

Re: How not to beach launch
There's a kayak fishing comp over in SA, Salt Rock with a surf launch that offers a Hilux for anyone who can come back with a 28kg+ mackerel. Gets plenty of interest even when the swell is up. Some years its absolute carnage. 2010 is one of my favourites, the legend at 3.35 almost gets crunched and then makes it out the back. One of few that day I'd imagine:
With the current swell forecast we might have something similar at NSC this year. (minus the hilux)
