I noticed that, there's a bit of video here: https://twitter.com/7newsmelbourne?lang=en
Another short yak, but not sure if it's paddle or one of the newer pedal models. Willy can be a very tricky spot in a gusty West or WNW as decent waves can set up around the reef. He's lucky he was plucked out, but really shouldn't have been out there.

Could we run kayak safety awareness days? There is no margin for error this time of year for the inexperienced.

The biggest problem the MSV have, is getting people aware of groups like this and other social media options, before they go out for the first time.FRANKB wrote:Could we run kayak safety awareness days? There is no margin for error this time of year for the inexperienced.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

There's that and also that some people don't want to/can't be told. Some times social media options have the opposite effect I've lost count of the number of times I've seen people advised against taking 2.5m yaks in the bays only for someone else to chime in with a "I've got a 2.5m yak and I've paddled it in 30knots and it handled it fine" (some people measure wind like their drag setting )maverick wrote:The biggest problem the MSV have, is getting people aware of groups like this and other social media options, before they go out for the first time.FRANKB wrote:Could we run kayak safety awareness days? When people have largely made up their mind already, they are just waiting for the one person to agree with them, rather than listening to the vast majority saying the opposite.
Its like when they are told about regs - registering a powered kayak for example, they will argue black and blue a loophole that they think exists rather than agree with what is painfully obvious to the rest of us.
