Cant agree more for once Andrew..
The surf can be a lot of fun but its also another spot that needs to be respected. Broken necks etc are a very real danger. Heavy boats have a lot of momentum and have a habit of landing on you at times. Bear in mind also that you don't have to be in the surf to learn those skills. Lang Lang in an onshore is a good spot to practise your stern rudder catching runners back to the ramp.

No I haven't attended a surf day yet, I have done flips and re entries a few times in the terrapin, but I'm feeling a bit more confident and like I will be experiencing rougher water in the PA (still not "extreme" as I get sea sick easily  I am a fair weather fisherman). I want to have experience for when the fair weather unexpectedly turns not so fair though

Jordo had a near miss because he rode a wave right in then got tumbled in very shallow water.

My gut feel was to stay further out and that proved to be a smart move. When I did turn turtle I had space beneath the rolling yak and seat and tethers to manouver my body without being crushed. With Shanes words of warning re the vantage seat and tethers fresh in my mind I had a plan as soon as the yak started to tip. Lessons learned that day are burned into my thinking and remain fresh each time I launch.

The surf best simulates the kind of relentless pounding one will endure in crap weather with the advantage of being close to shore and plenty of experienced compamy.

They did find is yak today in the middle of the bay, so he was definitely out there.

Not always that easy to back out of a wave or even know how deep it is.

Any of the shallow running beaches on the west side. eg Campbells, WS, are good practice for shore breaks around the low tide with an onshore wind.

What I had hoped to convey is the Seller is left copping the feedback and the manufacturer sits on their hands on issues that will cost them anything to remedy.

I fish my PA off Williamstown and plan to continue to do so.
More power to ya.

The main issues are being hit by your ski or your head hitting the reef/bottom. This is why helmets are recommended for surf and whitewater.
