Jackets abound

Post by Steve_R »

We're getting an invasion of 'jackets due to cold water in Victoria. They're chewing on everything, flapping about in the water and washing ashore. People are complaining their baits and SPs are all going to the 'jackets.

You can only wonder how many fish died between here and wherever the death toll started in Victoria.

I heard about a sudden drop in water temperature being to blame for all the fish deaths - any update?
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

Eden Magnet had three or four articles about it to date. My guess is they'll cover the investigation result. If something appears, I'll update the thread.

The Eden Magnet says the report is out on the fish kill - 'inconclusive'. However, I don't trust Media (journalists often write what they think makes a good story instead of quoting verbatim). I would like to see the wording of the report to see whether it specifically rules out disease, which would make the cold current a lot more likely.

EPA http://www.epa.vic.gov.au/about-us/news ... h-incident
say
officers from Parks Victoria and Fisheries Victoria are currently visiting the site to assess the site and investigate potential causes, and help determine any further actions.
I searched websites of both Parks and Fisheries and found no mention of Mallacoota leatherjacket. A broader search of v.c.gov.au sites also produced nothing more than the EPA webpage above.
