It adds character. Although it also helps if you have a poor sense of smell.Fish Grylls wrote: squid ink and other assorted crud

Blood stains and squid ink are manly symbols of a yak fishing prowess, they should be displayed with pride!Fish Grylls wrote:I figure the more pockets the better! On a separate issue, has anyone waterproofed the front of their jackets using a product like waterproof sprays used on canvas tents etc. or the outdoor scotchguard product. The goal is to easily clean squid ink and other assorted crud of it.
Having said that... I chuck my PFD and fishing clothes in the wash after every trip, keeps them looking almost as good as new.

I stupidly tried that in a top loader once, the PFD floated at the top and didn't get washed, came out just as dirtySmish wrote: I chuck my PFD and fishing clothes in the wash after every trip, keeps them looking almost as good as new.

Re: Good and Bad PFD's for Kayaks
I've been using an MTI Calcutta since day one, both paddle and pedal kayaks.
The pockets take my phone in its hard/silicon case, pliers, braid scissors, licence. I have a whistle, BCD knife and a rope cutter attached, I clip the VHF onto the middle strap.
There's still some more space left.
For me its comfortable, even with the old hobie seat, although I am resting on the back floatation.

Re: Good and Bad PFD's for Kayaks
Thanks everyone for the great reviews.
Seems a couple of people have an Ultra Trek and are happy with it, although quite heavy.
I was looking at the Sea Summit from SLHobie when I was doing a bit of searching – glad someone here has got one and is happy with it – thanks Maverick
Thanks Damian, I’ll have a looksie at the MTi too
Still laughing at the toploader comment Eoin

Got the sea to summit as well. Good for my offshore gross bit prefer my inflatable must of the time. The bigger the chance I will end up in the drink the more likely I will use the sea to summit as reentry is alot easier
Live long, fish hard and hopefully catch something.
