For those who wants more than one weather forecast

Post by Steve_R »

BOM gives reasonably reliable Aussie-made data but sometimes gets it wrong.
I very recently found https://www.windytv.com
Windyty users can now easily use and compare four different weather models on Windyty: two global models ECMWF, GFS and two local models: NAM in the USA, and NEMS in Europe.

When opened the above link shows a wind map... handy.
Not all of the features are evident when you open the web page ... not so handy. You can play and learn fairly easily.

How to get more than one forecast:

1) Move the map and scroll in closer to the location where you want the forecast.
2) Click the map on the location (should pop up a small flag). If its not where you want it, drag so the round dot at the bottom in where you want it.
3) Click the red 'Forecast for this location' showing on the flag (A forecast should open at the bottom area of the screen and right at the bottom of this the forecast model 'ECMWF' will be highlighted red.
4) To the right of ECMWF are more options, click 'Compare forecasts'. This will open three separate forecasts

The sample show wind in knots. You can change site setting to show wind as kph
The red box with the 'X' will close the forecast. You may need to click another red box to get back to the main screen.
In the top R/H corner click the icon (three horizontal bars).
Click Settings. Make your changes.
Explore other options
Click the white X to close the menu.

It's a good forecast to have up your sleeve. I find the different wind models vary markedly and it seems more volatile than some others. It's also worth noting that the mobile app (at least on android) goes out 4 days further than the website.
