picking the mistakes I can see --- first he tells you some of it around the 17 min mark as he dumps stuff in an open bucket --- quotes " I'm not prepared " -- " Hope for the best " and " I dont Know " none of these quote inspire confidenceSteve_R wrote:Start about the 16 minute mark. First thing if you are going to do surf launches do some practice that surf was small and most kayaks would handle it quite well including his revo but you need to have a plan not just hoping for the best
not using the paddle to brace on the wave no hope to stay up right very few fishing kayaks are good at riding waves so coming in side on to the wave leaning on the paddle is the safest way even if it isn't graceful to watch

In my surf landings I try and pick a gap and come in behind a wave, never works completely but if in doubt bail out and hold onto the back and just swim it in. Don't hold onto the side

I've had the least hassles when I go in backward through the surf.

Thats how I do it. Its just easier and safer from the get go
(The bailing out and holding on part. Cut the line and stow the reels and gear first before coming in)
Live long, fish hard and hopefully catch something.

Re: How to lose your gear
The backwards method seems to make a lot of sense in the video below but I'm not sure it would suit a Hobie Revo. Pedal kayaks are pigs in surf. Either you paddle and have no access to rudder or you pedal and use the rudder but risk bending up shaft/s.4liters wrote:I've had the least hassles when I go in backward through the surf.
