The link worked when I posted???
This link takes you to Australian Volunteer Coastguard page, scroll down to yesterday. They have a link to Win TV who had a clip :)

Now I'm curious what the first link was :?

Anyway, good on the coast guard for going on strike; it's a disgrace that they aren't a properly government funded operation in the first place. If they're putting in the hours they should at least get their overheads paid for and probably an hourly rate too.

It is an absolute disgrace the way the Vic government treat volunteers across the board. If it were not for those that give up their own time and put their own live at risk in organisations such as the coast guard cf a ans ses this state would be a basket case

Hey yako, you must have cut and pasted the wrong browser window. ASIO knows...

on a serious note, agreed. Would be nice to see an income tax break for volunteers. It gives an incentive and reward without making job out of it. Once you start paying them then you need a payroll dept, hours worked to be tracked, superannuation etc.

Just a simple tax break (nothing involving the tax system will be simple) work a minimum number of hours might be a good reward?
Live long, fish hard and hopefully catch something.
