Josh how did the reels hold up after some of thoses dunkings with waves smashing over the yak?
No worries at all mate, still going strong. Those reels have performed really well.
AFAIK targeting Makos involves pretty full on burleying to bring em in to a livey or switch baiting them ? By-catch using those methods = GWS. I have a feeling the next Paddlefield could be your best...and possibly your last
I won't be burleying... too messy. To be honest I'll be surprised if a Rapala CD Magnum doesn't attract a Mako... I've hooked many sharks with these. For some reason they find that lure irresistable. I'll be very surprised if Makos don't go for them. Either way, my next episode won't be my last. Sharks really don't really bother me anymore - I've had a few brushes with whites and have pretty much been desensitized to the things to be honest. It helps that I use an AI. Its not like the yak is going to tip over and as such, I don't think there's really anything much to fear.
They would go for a cd magnum no worries or maybe even troll a slimey/squid/yakka or whatever else.
You don't absolutely have to burley but it obviously gets them to you much easier.
Just one thing with threshers is if you haven't already switch to singles on your lures (although I suppose you have already). They get hooked by the tail a lot while trolling because of the way they attack and if you bring them up with trebles flying it might end up hooking you and pull you out. This also means you'll have to get them in quick for a release seeing as you pull them backwards.

I know for a fact that the magnums work on threshers but I would suggest removing the trebles and running singles.
Threshers will hit the lure with their tail first as that is what they do with bait fish to immobilize them before eating them.
If you use trebles most of your hookups will be in their tail resulting in an unlikely successful release.
From my experience chasing Makos Josh, unless you cross close paths with a free swimming shark it's unlikely you'll get a hit from one without berley. It's not impossible but they're not as numurous and tend to be solo hunters compared to the reefies up north. If you luck onto some schools of slimeys or stripies it'll increase the chances though
great vid mate top job. ive always wanted to get off shore with the yak, ive wanted to have a go off walkerville south, straight into the open ocean and an easy launch and been told some great fishing down that way too.
Would it be to much trouble to put side kicks and a sail on a pa? Or just not effective enough?
Its easy enough to fit sidekicks and sail to a PA, but really, if you want to sail a more reliable set up (and easier to use) go for an AI. Its purpose designed for sailing - the PA really isn't.
Snow, yes. I make most of my vis available for direct download from my google-drive account. Far better quality, but bigger download. I'll upload it sometime next week (have to do from work - my home connection is second rate). Keep an eye on my site to see when it goes live. If I remember to do so, I'll report back here also.
