post your april entries/photos here!

A year long comp where entrants try to catch as many species from the Victorian fishing handbook.
The biggest total length of all species wins.
Comp ends 31st Dec 2011.

According to my reading of the DPI guide a Seven gill comes under "other sharks" which have no minimum so he should be eligible. I measured it against the 60 cm ruler sticker on my paddle and it was a couple cm longer but I would have struggled to get it, my name and the ruler in the same shot as the little bugger had the squirms and I didn't want to harm him prior to release. (and while he was small his teeth were looking nasty).

So, claiming 60 cm and happy to go with whatever the admin says. All good either way

After not allowing the toady that was entered last month (it fell under "other fish") we'll have to be consistent and not allow "other sharks".
Sorry about that! He/she sure is a cute little thing.
I think you are wrong on this one jeff or poddys skate late month also would be out

And away for another day.

but both sharks and skates/rays are in the dpi book
Shark (all species other than school and gummy shark, white shark, greynurse shark and elephantfish)
so the 7 giller is in there
just as rays also get a blaket mention

I know my toad was sus as there is not direct mention of them
where as sharks and ray are

just a thought
Cool, I'll get a second opinion from Will and get back to you.

Like I said happy to go with whatever is decided but putting this example aside for a moment and thinking ahead...there is a chance that someone could get onto a fairly substantial shark in either of the bays or offshore, i'm not well informed on what might turn up but Bronzie, Thresher and Mako are chances I believe or even a larger 7gill. I think it would be a shame if someone managed to bag what would be a stellar catch from a yak (and managed to hang on to all their fingers and toes in the process  ). None of these are specifically mentioned in the guide and it would be a shame for them to be ineligible.

Hey guys,

Sharks and rays should be allowed.
It's a big effort to land them and they are mentioned in the dpi handbook.
Happy hunting.

Couldn't remember the code for this month as I lost my fishing vest which had my user and code number in it. I thought I remembered it as 331 so thats what is in the photo. If it isn't accepted it still fought well!
