the pics are not to scale and more an artists rendition of the actual pods im making. They are stitch and glue ( hot glue gun glue) and will be glassed scaled down and modified from a free small kayak plan that had a flat bottom.
The pods themselves will have cost about 20 dollars each to make. So if they are not quite right for the cost they will be perfect as there is no way on earth i will fork over 100 plus dollars for something so simple.
Thing is that i really don't think to we need to be to perfect here with wave piercing design etc cos if sidekicks work, pvc tubes work then these will work.
Once ive made the first set i will have learnt allot about designing them and be able to make ones to suit the application i want them for.

Re: Outriggers
Only stability so far. A sail was included with the revo eBay purchase but I think I'd be biting off a bit more than I can chew at the moment as windsurfing about 20 years ago is as far as my sailing experience goes. It will get a run eventually but I think that might wait till next summer too.Mordy wrote:Thanks wokka some detail pics would be great, mounting points and how and where they are fixed to your yak.
I think I will wait till next summer before I spend any more hard earnt on my yak.
Do you sail with them or just for extra stability?
Tony
Road trip this week starting with Mulwala tomorrow so I should have some pics up in the next few days.

Re: Outriggers
Beautiful weather today at Mulwala. No fish but
The only thing perhaps not immediately apparent with the pictures is that the fixed arm has three locating holes and the detachable arm (arma ??) has a bend in it. This means that by selecting a different locating hole you can adjust the ride height of the sidekicks...letting you choose the combination of stability versus moving water resistance you want.

Re: Outriggers
Great topic guys,
If you're looking for "umbrella mounts", just Google "Flagpole Wall Bracket".
They usually hold 25mm poles and cost about $30.
Might knock some outriggers up one day using the Flagpole Wall Brackets, 25mm PVC piping, and a couple of capped 100mm PVC pipes.
Cheers.

See page 1 of this post. Basically a 2lt bottle has about 20newtons which equates to roughly 2kg of buoyancy.Peterj wrote:Good job, how are you working out the bouyancy
