STAR Sail Kit

Post by dilwad »

I'm considering a sail kit for an Oasis and interested what you mob make of the Self Trimming And Reefable ('S.T.A.R') sail kit from this guy up in NSW:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kayak-Sail-f ... 6e7&_uhb=1

I like:
- Keeping a bit of money in this country
- Includes a furler and other kit that I would need/make anyway

I've been looking at these - Wish they'd been around before I bought the offical Hobie sail kit for my Revo.

The price and features certainly look good. My only thought would be to make sure the mast is sufficiently
tough to stand up to strong wind conditions. I know that the Hobie mast was made of out very heavy duty
aluminium and that would be under real stress when the breeze got up to 20km/h+

Cheers,

Mike.

I've looked at these too and been very tempted. They look like a good piece of kit and come in a wider range of sizes than the standard Hobie sail.

center of force looks quite high.. not sure how stability would go in a decent breeze. bendy mast looks like it may spill wind if it gets strong which may help.
Much more fun with DIY.
verb. Fishing - doing nothing with a purpose
