Rigging the Outback for sailing (Video added)

Has given me some ideas to upgrade my sail kit on the the outback... I run the outriggers when using the sail, and hold the turbo fins in the fully down position, which acts like a dagger board.. when not peddling...

Hows the waters around Hayling Isand... I learned to use scuba dive there back in 1978.. .?

Here's a short video I put together , lightly covering the installation and sea trials, with a little video footage thrown in for good measure. The Outback is hugely stable and would certainly handle sailing without the Sidekicks in lighter winds. Though they do give piece of mind and I'd certainly fit them for stronger winds of say 10-15mph+

I have a Revo 13 that I have set up for sailing using the Hobie gear, including the side kicks that I find do a top job.
I run the sail rope through a small Harken block mounted on the rear deck just in front of the sailing rudder when it's in the raised position. Then the rope runs along the starboard side of the boat to another small block just in front of the side gear pocket then through a small toothed spring loaded quick release rope cleat, that allows me to quickly release the rope and thereby the sail if need be. Also I have made up a sail furler seen on YouTube that works fairly well.
I have had many hours out there sailing this rig, heaps of fun. Give it a go. Cheers....

Congratulations 'Scrumpy' on what is a most interesting & informative post. obviously you are a very 'cluey' fella to have that worked out as you have, and that is one very 'smick' Outback.

I have the hobie tandem oasis set-up with sail and outriggers.
The outrigger arms are made from heavy duty pvc pipe with hinges made from water proof nylon round bar and all screws and bolts are stainless steel.
The outriggers can be swung in against the hull if needed same as the tandem island.
Testing the set up went well very stable and only needed a few mods the tubes with the bungee cord that attach to the outriggers was to long and were shortened.

Looks good Kevin, what brand are the outrigger sponsons.
I am in the process of setting up our Oasis and am using the BCF inflatable outriggers but really like the look of those.
