SPs whiting Barwon heads

Post by abarratt »

Have seen a few posts talking of catching KGW on soft plastics in the Barwon estuary. Thought KGW only took bait. If SPs have worked can somebody suggest the right type and jighead weight?

Thanks AB

Depends how fast the tide is running, how big the fish are and how fast your drifting.
I like the TT #1 in a 1\8oz generally but if the fish are a good size which they generally are just outside the river mouth then a #1\0 in 1\60z
pumpkinseed turtlebacks work well on them but I bite off about an inch before putting them on.

I've caught whiting on 4" jerk baits grubs and worms. Not as productive as bait and more of by catch. If I do target whiting with plastics its usually with a worm pattern but instead of the usual hop of the plastic I found smaller movements of more of a shaking action works best with lots of pauses.

I've caught quite a few whiting on Gulp Swimming Mullet in Pumpkin seed and they attack them quite aggressively. http://berkley-fishing.com.au/product/swimming-mullet/

My 2 cents.
I've caught quite a few on gulp turtle backs and gulp blood worms both in cammo.

I've caught bay ting on 5" jerk shads before. Anything wormy with a stinger hook will work.

If whiting are in shallow water ie. 2-3ft deep, they will take small clear poppers too.
