Yesterday the Mallacoota Inlet was supposed to be artificially opened to the sea. Didn’t watch it but there looks to be wave activity in the middle that suggests an opening. It will take a few cycles before levels drop but soon the normal tidal nature will be in effect here.

Actually there are locals that think it failed!

Lots of boats hanging around there yesterday so something must be happening?

Both the hopkins and Glenelg rivers were also manually opened this week.

The Snowy at Marlo finally closed this week. It had just barely been open for some time.

It will be good when we get a bit of rain that should return all of our estuaries back to normal.

I was fishing the top lake a couple of days ago with a mate and noticed that the tide was running out quite strongly about the time it should have been and so it seems that opening efforts finally succeeded. (Might have been that loud bang I heard Steve??)

The water up there was heavily tannin stained so it might take a good flush out to clean it up. Plenty of fish about though!

When the bemm closed over they often had to wait for it to become a health issue (water entering septics) before blowing the mouth, some of the locals quite liked this idea as they didn't have to stop their boats at the jetty to refill their eskies, they could just motor straight to the pub door their were some good photos on the bar pin board of the front entrance to the pub lined with boats

It was actually a bit dodgy walking on weed covered wooden jetties there the day we went out, which was the day after levels fell and the jetties saw the light of day for the first time in many months.

Slicker than snot comes to mind.

Should be dried out by now.
