IMHO not all police members are expert witnesses. Traffic police probably but there are members who have not had the training in that area. Are they still considered expert witnesses? I believe that they technically are.

as a really grey guy I don't disagree with the need to slow down but in every state and territory other than SA the limit is 40 km/h which is a sensible speed for school and roadside needs.aussieDave wrote:In SA yes it is 25km/h but I haven't had any troubles on the highway when I don't slow right down to 25 but give a wide berth.
I guess if they want to be a-holes they can do this anyway, most are good these days since I look like a pretty conservative greying dude now and not a punk kid anymore.

Re: New Overtaking Emergency Road Rule 1 July
The rule makes sense to me, I was just past Bendigo driving out to Swan Hill last week and there was police with a car pulled over on the highway. I slowed down to about 50 to pass them because I know I wouldn't feel very comfortable standing on the side of the road with cars going past at 100. One of the cops gave me a wave a thumbs up so I guess it was appreciated. I think it's a good idea when when you also factor in that most the people going past are probably more focused on what the emergency services are doing rather than paying attention to their driving.
