Just wondering instead of having rod leashes and potentially getting tangled once tipped...
How about a small diameter shock cord attached to your rod and other end to something light, enough to keep your gear afloat?? Maybe a section of a pool noodle?

Good idea Swivels
I currently use a simple cord leashed to the yak.It does sometimes get tangled with the reel when the action is fast and thick. your idea sounds good, however you will need to do some boyancy test to make sure it is floating and not a few meters below water.

Good luck catching it if a decent fish is on the other end

The Okuma range of Yak rods are meant to float with reel and line etc but like Hatters said if you have big red on there kiss your rod good bye.

In saying that if you bait fishing not a good Idea but trolling or flicking plastics I don't think you would lose a rod would you? My snapper rod is on the bottom of WPBmtfisho wrote:How often are we going too hook onto 'Big Red' and let go of the rod

Just don't like the idea of extra things to get tangled in...
Agree with Mitch, what are the chances of a big anything grabbing your bait while you're tipped over?

Re: PFD for your rod?
My Environet is all floatied up with a bit of pool noodle, and it's actually come in handy once when I used to chuck it in the rear well and it went floating off one day. Don't know that i'd like it on a rod though the extra weight would annoy me, and if i'm going to leash it to something it may as well be straight to the kayak.
