Diy stern guard

Post by Nello »

I've been using a half cut pool noodle to protect the stern of my yak while loading/unloading onto the car. I decided I wanted something a bit more solid so came up with this.

1. Got some 100mm pvc pipe and cut out a groove about 50mm along the length of it.
2. I then found out how deep I need it at the rear to cover the rear section, then cut out a triangular piece so I'd be able to fold it to 90 degrees.
3. Got out the camp stove and heated up the pvc, then placed it over the hull moulding it to fit. (wear gloves as the pvc will be quite hot)
4. Cut out little grooves to thread a tie down strap through.
5. I found some scrap marine carpet which I cut to shape and glued to the inside of the guard.
6. Tested and fits nice and snug.
