Is this console okay on my scupper holes?

Post by agelow »

Hi guys,

Just got into some modding again and wondering if my chopping board console which has two rod holders and a sounder will cause damage to my scupper holes?

The pvc pipes run down into the scupper and are attached using bungee cords.

You want to make sure that the bottom of the PVC pipe sits flush with the bottom of the yak so that it can't dig into the sides of the scupper hole with any lateral movement. You will need a collar fixed over the PVC to fix it at the right height. Provided that's sorted the PVC pipe should break or deform before the yak does. However personally I'd be looking for an alternate solution such as mounting rod holders independently off the gunwales.

What Shane said X2
Plus each time you insert and remove the PVC it will rub on the HDPE.
It will take a long time to wear but does have the potential to gradually thin the walls of the scupper tube, especially if sand gets in between the two surfaces.

Hey mate, probably not too many issues with using scuppers until you hook up to a fish, then it's going to be putting lot of pressure on an area that isn't designed to have that sort of pressure applied.

here is a thread showing how i did mine.

No issues with the rod holders however they don't suit short butt rods very well.

Can you get out if you overturn the yak?

If I overturn the Yak, I cannot get it out, unless I unscrew the locks.

There are MALE-FEMALE screws on the bottom side which holds it all in place.

Problem?

I think he means can YOU get yourself out of the kayak, not the rod holders.
