I broke my ram mount and went into bcf today however they don't sell them. Speaking with the manager who also has a yak was say he mounts his directly in the hull. Silicones the transducer to the hull. Not even in water.
Was saying works well for him. Therefore the transducer has to read through the silicon and the hull.
I want to get opinion before i do it and stuff the transducer. Also has the lowrance 4 hdi. Thoughts?

selleys all clear, warm up first. The aim is to be bubble free. Leave a couple of days before using. Lots of people do this.
search the forum, there will be lots of info on this.

Re: transducer mounting
There are heaps of posts in here on in-hull transducer mounts. Its the most common method, will work OK but doesn't give an accurate water temperature. Other options are an arm over the side/end or a scupper mount. I personally prefer a scupper mount and on a PA you should find enough room in the groove to fit the transducer. This gives the b3st reading but can be more fiddly on older models to install the wiring.

Have a look at the lowrance scupper mount kit. Costs about 50-60.

Sounder on my outback has been siliconed inside the hull since 2009.
Works fine.

Re: transducer mounting
I've had mine in hull since December with no problems. Winter temps don't really vary much but it's a little more noticeable on hot summer days but you figure it out.
I got tired of smashing the transducer around when I was winching the yak onto the roof etc and having it on the side was annying too.
I'm running a Dragonfly Pro4 & it reads through the hull really well. I used a Sika i190 or something I'll check, but some blokes reckon marine goop is good too.
It's all in the preparation and applying, if done right no worries.

Sikaflex 291i, comes in a 100ml tube and is about $17 from Bunnies, have a tube in front of me for fitting a new transducer on the boat.Yako wrote:I used a Sika i190 or something
Transducers don't like foam or wood core hulls not that it will be an issue with most craft here.

Re: transducer mounting
Gday guys, after one year my transducer and silicone have come unstuck from the kayak. When i installed it i just cut a piece of foam for the transducer to sit in, filled it with silicone then dropped the transducer in. Im planning on doing the same again, but wondering should i lightly score the area i will silicone with course sandpaper before siliconing or use a cleaner on the plastic hull before hand so it doesnt come off again? How do you guys prep for the silicone on an in-hull set up?
Thanks
