I second Choppers, get a 2.5kg grapple. Another trick I have is to have several sections of chain I can add or remove depending on the current flow where I'm fishing that day. Saves having to haul in 10kg of crap when I'm anchored up on a lake or something

I get Keiths explanation in theory but need someone to show/teach me how to use anchor trolley & clips & cleats safely in practice.choppers wrote:Thanks for a great explanation keith. I get it now my rig does bow and that's what happened
I find sometimes when I pull in the anchor, the trolley clip slides toward the centre of the yak.
Maybe the trolley line has lost tension ?
How do people lock/cleat the Hobie trolley pulley system so the clip doesn't slide back or foward on the pulleys as you pull in the anchor.
So far I have been OK at LL & JJ but I need to sort this out & gradually work up to stronger currents.
Might have to enrol in a Seasherpa course to "learn the ropes"

One next to you on the yak. No knot needed and super easy. Only way to go and much safer then knots

Thanks Brett,
The outback moulding has a "torturous path" which puts tension on the anchor trolley line - but I find it still does slip.
One of those Ronstan cleats should hold it tight.

Depending if you want to hold it fore or aft clip the top or bottom rope into it. Add another next to the seat for the anchor itself

I use one of these mounted on side of yak to lock the opposite rope from the one you are pulling onJacko wrote: How do people lock/cleat the Hobie trolley pulley system so the clip doesn't slide back or foward on the pulleys as you pull in the anchor.

You can get them from CHsmith and elsewhere. Make sure you get the right size for your trolley rope
The ones Brett referenced would be better for cleating actual anchor rope, or a zizag cleat, but the cheaper more compact v cleat is enough for the trolley, as it is not under as constant load nor as critical

Re: I need an anchor. what to get?
The other ronstan one I posted works with a broader range of rope sizes but also is less abrasive and holds better on dyneema or waxed ropes. I use spectra for my anchor trolley and waxed dyneema for my anchor rope.
Keiths one works well with regular fibre ropes
Both are very good

Re: I need an anchor. what to get?
I have the red Cooper plastic anchor for my 3.6m yak and love it. Has held me even in WP and also with a mate tied off to me in PPB without slipping at all. I have about 2m of chain with the zip tie in case it gets snagged. I tie it off to my anchor trolley with some bungee cord on the end to reduce the stress it puts on my hull. It's a very easy anchor to use as its so light and won't hurt your hands on those cold winter nights when fumbling around.
Cheers, hope that helped
