Ye that's the plan. The launchers for a bit of trolling which is my go to method of fishing at the moment. To date, I've trolled with rod in hand, but now i'm hoping to be able to troll two lines at different distances/depths and steer/maintain a course.

After a beautiful morning on the water from Willy with nothing but a few small flatties I decided to do a bit of stuff on the kayak when I got home.

I FINALLY got around to shortening my cart legs and fitting with hoops. So I can now quickly install the cart with a lift from the rear and a tug on the shock cord. I think you've all seen the vids.

I'm also figuring out where to install the rear rodholders, in an effort to get rid of the milk crate. I think I'll put 3 either side with a slight tilt out similar to the pic - but more vertical:

I need to get myself some pvc.

I just recently did the hoop mod myself. How did you secure them? In my case i took the rope all the way through each tube so the loop sticks out of the top and the bottom ties around the axle itself. It did mean I had to leave the bottom caps off though.

After I found it so hard to drill the stainless frame for the first, I discovered the elastic in the other leg ran around the exle so I did the same for the 2nd.

angled rod holders will be no use for holding rods when carting kayak. I see no benefit to them as they are to far back to troll. Why do you want to get rid of crate?

Keith,

firstly the rod holders will not be anywhere near as tilted as in the picture. It was more with regards to the location. I have come to the conclusion that I would not be able to reach half of them as it is so having a rethink. the other alternative is possibly having them across the width (port to starport?) and tilting the rods slightly towards me.

with regards to why i want to get rid of the crate...i just dont light the "agricultural look of it and would like to see if i could work out a bit of a better solution that allowed me to keep jigs etc in the centre hatch and "IF" I catch anything of any size, to put it in either the front hatch or where the crate currently is.

Nath

EDIT: I wont be trollinng it will only be used for transport and storage- not fishing from

Two important considerations for trolling. Being able to see the rod tips and also be able to easily get the rod out of the holders when you get a big strike pulling on it. Reaching behind to remove rods with a big load is a not always easy and a high tipping risk.

If I were you I would use your scotty rocket launchers just in front of mesh pockets point up and backwards at 45 degrees. You can see the tips and it is dead easy to quickly grab them and pull out of holders. I use this angle also for bait fishing now having tangled with some big rays over last couple of days which can make removing rods difficult when you have to reach forward or backwards while they are trying to tip the kayak sideways.

If you want some storage tubes at the back without a crate have a look at something like shane has.

Murray's ones in the picture may be a bit overkill on the smaller revo. There are pictures of mine somewhere on here and I'll post them if I find them. Mine have been refined over the years and I have a set each for the AI and PA.

You basically use the molded rod holder in the hull as the centre and have 40mm pvc coming up with a 15 degree elbow at the base to make it more vertical. Then use tee pieces part way up to branch out to verticals either side of the centre. I use another tee at the base of these verticals so the rod butt can extend through. On the forward facing vertical extend the bottom to the deck surface. On the AI I have a key hole cut that lines up with the bungee clip to lock the pvc in place with the bungee holding it tight. Flare the tops, cut inverse L shaped slots for the reel stems and you have 3 secure rocket launchers either side that don't block access to the rear deck.
