An advantage of the PA14 over your adventure is that they aren't as old having been introduced in 2009 and came with the V2 mirage drive from the beginning (it was released in 2007). So shafts may be worn but the whole drive should be easily upgradable to glide tech without the same degree of wholesale replacement.laneends wrote:If its an old drive I would look more carefully into the rest of the drive's condition. So very old or worn drives have little value other than as spare drives. Best getting it checked before throwing parts at it.

$1500 is probably the cheapest I've heard for a PA14, well done mate.
To be totally honest I loved my 12012 model PA and really thought hard about upgrading but I needing a new sounder and wanted the lowrance ready hull which led to also searching for a 2014 model to try and save money but they never came up so I bit the bullet and bought the 2015.
The best thing I did to the 2012 was fitting a boat seat, it gave me so much more room on each side and the rods fitted much better not to mention the comfort was amazing.
So to cut a long story short there is nothing wrong with the earlier models and I probably would have kept it if it had the transducer ready hull.

You could have just installed the transducer as a scupper mount, which I've done on my older PA. It sits well clear of the bottom and gets a fantastic reading.

I looked at all different options but to tell you the truth once I had a go on iron horses new pa I fell in love with it.

Shane how do you stop bashing the transducer every time you load or offload?
I did mine like yours but then I load mine differently to you, so I'm trying mine in the hull for now???
I was worried I'd damage the scupper hole tubing every time I bumped the transducer.

When I offload I'm sliding the yak back across the roof racks then swinging it onto the side bar, rear on the ground, wheels in, then lift front off. Loading is the reverse and each time there's plenty of clearance between the roof racks and the transducer. I use reinforced pool noodle along the scupper grooves to lift it off the roof racks but they go in after its in position on the racks. Yeah I kept bashing the transducer so I put it in the hull, but it's not working too well I discovered today. Anyway doesn't matter for Christmas I'm getting a Dragonfly 4Pro (bought it already but can't touch it till 25th ), but I'm thinking of having the transducer on a swing arm, but maybe the transducer in hull will work ok????
I guess I'll have to ask others on the forum if they have a Dragonfly with in hull transducer. Ive been toying with the idea of asking someone who specialises in yak repairs if they could make cavity in the outer hull (like the new PA's)to mount the dragonfly one.

Have just bought a trailer for it got a seatrail pwc12. No more heavy lifting
