Re: PLB V EPIRB
All our Coast Guard life jackets have Rescue Me PLB fitted - if we didn't tell people they wouldn't even know they are in there. You only really notice if you lean over a rail or something (with the work we do) and its in-between you and the rail. They are a fantastic little device, much easier than...

Re: Kayaker rescue balnarring
Our duty officer took the call for assistance, he had no safety equipment with him - someone on the beach noticed he was sinking and called it through. They stayed on the phone to provide updates.
I wasn't actually aware it was the same guy but totally not surprised!!

Re: Worth knowing
I listened to an amazing podcast episode where they discussed people who are convinced the facebook app on mobile devices can hear you, due to the uncanny advertising results it returns in the news feed post discussing things verbally. They did an incredible amount of digging into their trackers and...

Re: Worth knowing
There is two ways they can implement the mining script, you're right they should gain permission but realistically so many things on the internet don't gain permission. There is a version of the script that acts as a captcha robot check, it clearly states while you are proving you are not a robot it...

Re: Worth knowing
Its not as dire as it sound, its actually been around since 2011 but lost popularity as most of the cryptocurrencies required some hefty processing power to be mined. It has recently made a resurgence due to an influx of altcoins that are restricted to CPU mining, meaning they are worth very little,...

Re: Hi from the Peninsula
Just interested in your thoughts on electronic flares, I carry one with me on the yak and on the yacht (same one at the price they charge). I realise that I am obliged to carry flares but this certainly can get someones attention but I have yet to see the Coastguards views on them. https://www.whit...

I think you will find Frankston also has an issue if today's weather is anything to go by 30 deg with 3 knot winds @ 5pm. Not sure if its still the case, but the Frankston weather observation station was moved from the roof of the Coast Guard building to under the Frankston Pier due to constant van...

Re: Hi from the Peninsula
You can pick up a decent quality PLB now for around $100 - thing will last 5 or so years so its a great investment. I figure if someone's PLB failed to work or didn't work as well as it should the coast guard would hear of it (assuming they did get a rescue in the end). So ... Is there any particul...
