Re: Revo 16 Sounder - Where to put head unit?

Hi Tas, hope you are good mate. Nice purchase Dave, hopefully will be able to deal with the leak issue. Would be curious to know how it handles the offshore conditions. If the borders open you need to try to make it a bit further than Portland and see if we can catch a couple of snaps off PI. Oh... ...

Re: Revo 16 Sounder - Where to put head unit?

Hi Kieth, ... Previous owner would have know about this and maybe why he got jack of it. ... No he's very new to the sport, I know the previous 2 owners and they were both not motivated to use it properly, Aaron the previous owner is a newbie and found it too tippy for him so I paid him a fair price...

Re: Revo 16 Sounder - Where to put head unit?

Thanks for your input Kieth and Shane. I went through whole range of emotions yesterday when I realised I had this leak from the rear thru hull plug as I've been taking on a fair bit of water both times I've taken this kayak out around a lake in windy conditions. I even got to the point where I thou...

Re: Revo 16 Sounder - Where to put head unit?

Hi Kieth, I hear you guys have been liberated today, fantastic. I just hope it doesn't turn out like everywhere else in the world they have re-opened. My sounder is set up with the tranny thru-hull fitting next to the Lowrance Ready scupper: sounder thru-hull 1.jpg And the same fitting in the side p...

Revo 16 Sounder - Where to put head unit?

Hi guys, I've recently bought this 2015 Revo 16 ready for tuna season. Revo 16.jpg The guy who owned it before me had Binks Marine (SA Hobie Dealer) fit a Garmin sounder in the Lowrance ready Hobie. The tranny seems OK but where they installed the head unit, in the side pocket, was just unworkable w...

Re: How Do You Lose A Shark Or Big Pelargic?

Interesting timing for this one, I just did the VRFish survey on releasing sharks and rays. I said the biggest threat to sharks is the main stream media sensationalising every sighting causing uneducated people to fear them and want them killed. Also I can't remember a shark or ray not releasing wel...

Re: pedal drive v longer yak in the bay

For bays I think a medium length yak around 3.8/4m is ideal, like my Outback. These should be long enough to track well and have a rudder. I've been anchored up with mates on those Ferarri like 5.5m+ Stealths and they often find that they are sitting in the middle of a wave as the wave crest passes ...

Re: Tips wanted for buying a second hand Hobie AI

I'll have to see if I can wrangle a test run on a couple of different models of AI's, Adventures and Revo's on the weekend if anyone would be kind enough to let me take their pride and joy for a spin. We will sort something out, both modes in the newer AI ((sail and pedal) if you want. That would b...

Re: Tips wanted for buying a second hand Hobie AI

Thanks for the tips Jacko, Mingle and Yako. A tinny just wouldn't cut it with me, I love the exercise and being one with nature, the one on one fighting of sportsfish that you get on a kayak and I have a bad back so sloshing around in a boat is the worst thing for it, in a kayak I just sit down and ...

Re: Tips wanted for buying a second hand Hobie AI

I wish Mav, I can't really afford to get this one but the opportunity has come up and even if I can't knock him down a bit on price I'm thinking $2K for an AI with registered trailer is a great deal as long as its in good condition. My motto is to buy when a bargain pops up and not when I want to go...
