...... you should probable be looking at something that has gps and is DSC capable. Basically this means you can hit distress and your gps co-ordinates are sent to marine rescue (provided your are certified and have applied for your individual code...mmsi...or something like that) and all other DSC...

Have to be careful alongside another yak, boat, etc - could get crushed. Also wouldn't work in creeks/rivers where you brush up against tree branches, etc.
