Re: Outback with sail

I've been wondering about sailing one of my outbacks, but won't try it without outriggers (amas). I don't like the aka/amas that Hobie supplies as they look like toys and I haven't seen anything on-line that has grabbed my attention either. So what to do? I've just bought an old sailboard for $20 co...

Re: Polystyrene transducer mount?

I originally used a 4" wet PVC plumbing type well shooting through the hull. Worked OK for a while, but leaked after half a dozen trips and each time I used a different glue, goo, silastic, the same thing happened. Eventually, tossed the whole idea and made a stainless bracket which I fitted to...

Re: Stainless Steel Mirage Drive Pedal Cranks

Thanks Shane, I've had a few similar problems with my older mirage drive over the years, but not with the pedal shafts. After reading your article, I just went out to check them for cracks. They look quite good but although I wash them after each use, I was surprised to see beads of moisture over th...

Re: Safely Retrieving Anchors

I use a reef anchor with tangs that will deform and pull straight if it becomes stuck. I haven't lost one yet, but if it became too thoroughly wedged to budge, I'm happy to sacrifice it to King Neptune and get another one. (BigW el cheapos). Still works OK in sand if you let out enough line or if co...

Re: Your yak, what cheeses you off?

The p1&&weak trolly cart and wheels. The outback is also very difficult to paddle if you have to, so longer paddles would have been better for this model. They should also come as standard with the larger rudder for improved turning (tried to spell manouvrebility but gave up). Also annoyed t...

Re: beads who uses what and when?

I can't believe how quickly such a simple straight forward question has been converted into some thing else.
I do have to ask though, does size really matter or is it all about the colour?

Re: Hobie Outback

You've probably long since made your choice, but for anyone else that might be interested, the Outback is a great all rounder. For my 90kg, it seems perfectly balanced in handling all sorts of conditions....but as already pointed out you will get the occasional wet butt when heading into a nasty cho...
